Prima Additive wins the Green Impact Award at CECIMO Machine Tools Innovation Awards 2024
Prima Additive is proud to announce that we have been honored with the Green Impact Award at the prestigious CECIMO Machine Tools Innovation Awards 2024. This accolade recognizes our groundbreaking robotic solution for Rapid Coating of brake discs, a transformative innovation that combines sustainability, productivity, and scalability to redefine industrial manufacturing.
The award was presented during the CECIMO Brussels Forum 2024, held on December 2 at the Sofitel Hotel Europe in Brussels. This event brought together policymakers and industry leaders to discuss the future of European manufacturing, with sustainability and competitiveness at the heart of the agenda.
Revolutionizing manufacturing with sustainable innovation
For the first time, metal additive manufacturing is entering mass production globally, and Prima Additive is honored to be at the forefront of this transformation. Our Rapid Coating solution leverages high-speed laser cladding technology to coat brake discs with remarkable efficiency and environmental impact reduction.
This innovation achieves several critical goals:
- Compliance with Euro 7 regulations: strengthening brake disc wear resistance and reducing particulate emissions ahead of the 2026 standards
- Sustainable production: enabling the reuse of metal powders through a patented system, reducing waste and energy consumption
- Scalability: operating in industrial contexts such as foundries, ensuring seamless integration into traditional and energy-intensive environments
A collaborative effort for a global milestone
Our solution exemplifies the power of European collaboration, developed through the combined expertise of:
- Prima Additive: delivering advanced laser technologies for rapid coating
- Comau: providing automation systems for seamless operation
- Siemens: offering cutting-edge software integration to optimize performance
The first fully operational coating line, featuring six Prima Additive systems, has already been installed at Stellantis facilities. This line achieves a takt time of 19 seconds per disc and processes each brake disc in around 60 seconds with 95% capability—proving the scalability and industrial viability of our solution.
The impact of innovation
This robotic solution is a perfect way to show how advanced laser technologies can align environmental sustainability with industrial productivity. By reducing particulate emissions and material waste, the Rapid Coating solution not only improves the performance of the final product but also contributes to the broader goals of decarbonizing industry and promoting circularity in manufacturing processes.
The Green Impact Award underscores the critical role that metal additive manufacturing plays in enabling a greener future, offering a path toward sustainable, high-performance production on a global scale.
A platform for progress
The CECIMO Brussels Forum provided an excellent opportunity to showcase this innovation and connect with industry leaders. The theme of the forum, “Re-industrializing Europe: A Vision for Competitive Manufacturing”, resonates deeply with Prima Additive’s mission to transform additive manufacturing into a cornerstone of competitive and sustainable production.
Winning the Green Impact Award is both a validation of our efforts and a reminder of our responsibility to continue innovating for the future.
Looking ahead
At Prima Additive, we believe that technology and sustainability go hand in hand. This award fuels our determination to deliver solutions that empower industries while reducing environmental impact.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to CECIMO, the award organizers, and all those who have supported us on this journey.
